The Tower Formerly Known as Sears and Two Other Tales of Urban Horror edition by Lisa M Lilly Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Very fun read. The stories are well written, move quickly and more than live up to the description and reviews. If you like this genre, you will love the book.
Fun horror stories in legal settings. They are clever and well written. An enjoyable read for lawyers and non lawyers.
Left me wanting more. A little plot development might be helpful, even in short storyland. Not sure I'd go here again
I am a huge fan of the horror genre and enjoy writing it also. Lisa Lilly has a very creative mind, using her own profession as a backdrop for some less than desirable situations. I look forward to reading some of her other work.
This collection of stories is a quick read (I finished it at lunch) but that does not detract from the stories. Lisa gets right in and puts us in her characters' minds. Sometimes we sympathize, sometimes we cheer their demise. Given her crossing genres, legal horror may need its own category.
Using the legal profession as a back drop, the author created some very well written short stories that were unique within the horror genre. We very often found ourselves inside the minds of the main characters with all their hidden agendas and their secret and personal thoughts. This led to an unusual and entertaining series of quick stories. I enjoyed this little book and would highly recommend it to horror fans or anyone who might enjoy a very different collection of stories!
Picked this up after finishing Lisa M. Lilly's "The Awakening" series. which I thoroughly enjoyed. Still, the spooky, "urban horror" factors promised were missing. Just a little too tame for my taste, but well written.
I'm a huge fan of legal thrillers such as those written by John Grisham, Scott Turow and Richard North Patterson. In this fine tradition, author and attorney, Lisa M. Lilly has created her own genre--legal horror! Love it! Simply a brilliant idea. All three stories feature lawyers as the protagonist. These are intelligent, well-written, beautifully edited stories that will satisfy your craving for horror in pinstripes. I especially loved that Lilly exploited the Sears/Willis Tower as the setting for her third story. After 911, none of us will see working in a landmark highrise building quite the same way--it created a nice undercurrent of dread for me while I read that tale. I'm excited to read more of Lilly's horror writing!
